UDialogue – Intergroup Dialogue program for Faculty and Staff

Two concurrent cohorts of the UDialogue program will be offered during the 2019-2020 academic year – one cohort will meet on Tuesday evenings, and the other cohort will meet on Wednesday evenings. Content is identical in both cohorts – the different days are simply to allow the maximum number of both participants and facilitators to engage in the course. The topics that will be covered include dialogue about difference in the social identity realms of race/ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation.

UDialogue will start with all participants in both cohorts attending a two-day kickoff session on Thursday and Friday, October 17 and 18, 2019 (fall break on the Coral Gables campus) facilitated by external consultants. Due to program logistics and the facilitation conducted by our consultant partners, attendance during these two days – for the entire day – is mandatory, and we cannot excuse participants from missing any portion of these days. Breakfast and lunch will be provided on each of these two days.

The program then continues with one Tuesday cohort and one Wednesday cohort that will meet in the evening approximately once per month for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic year. Dinner will be provided at all evening meetings, with the schedule for each meeting being:

  • Dinner available – 5:30 to 6:00pm
  • UDialogue course facilitation – 6:00 to 9:00pm

The dates for the TUESDAY cohort are:

  • November 12, 2019
  • December 3, 2019
  • January 21, 2020
  • February 11, 2020
  • March 3, 2020
  • March 24, 2020
  • April 14, 2020
  • April 28, 2020

The dates for the WEDNESDAY cohort are:

  • November 13, 2019
  • December 4, 2019
  • January 22, 2020
  • February 12, 2020
  • March 4, 2020
  • March 25, 2020
  • April 15, 2020
  • April 29, 2020

Lastly, we will also have a concluding celebratory event with both cohorts combined on EITHER Tuesday or Wednesday, May 5 or 6, 2020 (additional details about this, along with selecting the final date as an entire group, will be discussed once UDialogue begins).

If you are interested in participating in the program, please contactChris Hartnett by Friday, 9/20, and also indicate if you prefer the Tuesday or Wednesday cohort (spaces are limited as this is the inaugural year). As you make your decision, please consider that due to the nature and structure of the course, only one excused absence out of the dates listed is permitted (and again, no absences are permitted from the October 2019 kickoff dates).
