Ms. Kane’s convention session, Crossover Excerpts – Solos We Need to Know for Both Symphony and Opera Auditions, was a clinic not to be missed. She shared stories about her time with the Metropolitan Opera and answered several pedagogical questions from audience members. The excerpts focused on were “Entr’acte” from Carmen (Bizet), Leonore Overture No. 3 (Beethoven), Overture to William Tell (Rossini), “Dance of The Seven Veils” from Salome (Strauss), and Le chant du rossignol (Stravinsky). Before each excerpt, a brief synopsis of the opera was given as well as context for the excerpt itself. The Carmen solo was performed by Chun Jan Young, the Leonore by Eduardo Martinez, Farah Zolghadr performed the William Tell excerpt and Amy Fiorito performed Salome. Ms. Kane performed the excerpt from “Rossignol.” The session was packed full of individuals eager to learn more about studying with Trudy Kane at the University of Miami Frost School of Music.
