The highly acclaimed Frost School of Music at the University of Miami announces the launch of the Frost Music Live! Signature Series.

Coral Gables, Fla. (August 23, 2017) —The highly acclaimed Frost School of Music at the University of Miami announces the launch of the Frost Music Live! Signature Series, an annual season with more than twenty-five exciting concert performances and captivating music lectures. The new Frost Music Live! Signature Series ranges from September through April, expanding the school’s prior month-long Festival Miami.

The Frost Music Live! Signature Series is as diverse as the Frost School, with distinctive programming that reflects the unique culture and varied tastes of Miami; with four distinct themes –Frost Music Classics, Frost Jazz, Pop, and Beyond, Frost Faculty Recitals, and Frost Musicology Lectures, beginning September 2017.  Concertgoers can enjoy the world-class talents of award-winning Frost student ensembles, esteemed Frost faculty artists, as well as world-renowned guest artists and musicologists.

“We invite you to rediscover great masterworks, explore the best in jazz and contemporary music, enjoy the brilliance of our students and faculty, and gain new insights into the musical creative process through informative musicology lectures,” says Shelton G. Berg, Dean of the Frost School of Music.

Performances will be held in the intimate and ideal setting of the 600-seat UM Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Drive, on the Coral Gables campus; along with select presentations at the Frost School’s state-of-the-art Weeks Center for Recording and Performance, Victor E. Clarke Recital Hall and the Adrienne Arsht Center in downtown Miami.  Some events are free of charge, and educational sessions, such as open rehearsals and hosted conversations with artists are also presented.

September 18, 2017 – “Frost Music Classics” - distinguished Frost alumnus and internationally acclaimed guest conductor Cristian Măcelaru leads the Frost Symphony Orchestra in Bernstein's “Overture to Candide.”

September 5, 12, 19, 26, 2017 – “Frost Musicology Lecture Series” – Frost Research Professor Emeritus Frank Cooper will present Music, Art and the Muses Behind Them in a lively 4-lecture series held every Tuesday night throughout September.

October 27, 2017 – “Frost at Arsht” – The Frost Symphony Orchestra, with Principal Conductor Thomas Sleeper, features Sir James Galway, aka “The Man with the Golden Flute” at the Adrienne Arsht Center.

November 3, 2017 – “Jazz, Pops, and Beyond” - The Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra and Jazz Roots bring an inspired Ella Fitzgerald centennial celebration to the Arsht Center stage.

March 23, 2018 – “Frost Faculty Recitals” – Professor Charles Castleman, one of the world’s most active performers and pedagogues of the violin, is joined on piano by Tian Ying, Dean Shelton Berg, and Frost Chair of Keyboard performance Santiago Rodriguez for an evening of Brahms Sonatas.

April 4, 2018 – “Jazz, Pops and Beyond” - Grammy nominated pianist/composer John Beasley, known for his work with such artists as Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, and Herbie Hancock, performs MONK’estra with the award-winning Frost Concert Jazz Band at UM’s Gusman Hall.
