Downbeat’s 42nd Annual Student Award Winners

Congratulations to our Frost student winners and Alberto De La Reguera for his Jazz Education Achievement Award!
Downbeat’s 42nd Annual Student Award Winners

Downbeat, the prestigious national jazz magazine has announced Frost School of Music ensembles and students have been honored with seven Downbeat Student Music Awards in its annual jazz education issue   Additionally, Frost faculty member, Alberto De La Reguera was honored with their Jazz Education Achievement Award.
 
Undergraduate College winners are Logan Smith as Vocal Jazz Soloist, the Frost Funk Ensemble in the Blues/Pop/Rock Group category, Adam Claussen for Original Composition—Small Ensemble for “Minor Conniption” and Aaron Mutchler for Engineered Studio Recording.
 
Graduate College Winners are the Frost Fusion Ensemble in the Blues/Pop/Rock Group category, Bryan Kennard for Original Composition – Small Ensemble for “Close Enough To Far Away” and Clint Bliel for Jazz Arrangement –Small Ensemble for “I’ll Remember April.” 
 
Faculty mentors were Kate Reid, Steve Rucker, Gary Keller, Gary Lindsay and Brian Lynch.   
 
Alberto De La Reguera has served as director, composer and conductor of the five-time Downbeat Collegiate Award-winning Frost Latin Jazz Orchestra, formerly the Frost Salsa Orchestra. De La Reguera is also Library Assistant for the Marta and Austin Weeks Music Library on the Frost School campus. He is one of two educators to be honored by Downbeat this year.
