Frost Rolls out the Red Carpet for Maestro Gerard Schwarz’s Conducting Debut

A new era was ushered in at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, and the South Florida arts community, on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, when world-renowned Maestro Gerard Schwarz made his debut conducting the Frost Symphony Orchestra as an esteemed new member of the Frost faculty, to a sold-out VIP audience.

Dean Shelly Berg greeted the enthusiastic red carpet concert patrons and acknowledged some of South Florida’s VIPs along with leading music directors in attendance including:  President of the University of Miami,  Dr. Julio Frenk and Dr. Felicia Knaul, UM Trustee Phillip Frost & Patricia Frost, UM Trustee Allan Herbert and Patti Herbert, Susana and Alberto Ibarguen, Maestra Sebrina Alfonso conductor of the South Florida Symphony who attended with CEO Jacqueline Lorber, Huifang Chen, a Frost School alumna and conductor of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony, and David McClymont, CEO of the Palm Beach Symphony, where Schwarz will serve as Music Director.  
 
Maestro Schwarz kicked off his Frost career with an incredible and captivating program. Beginning with Alberto Ginastera’s Estancia, the audience experienced a bright, rhythmic, and skilled opening under his baton. Samuel Jones’ Tuba Concerto featured Frost Faculty artist Aaron Tindall in a performance that was rich with expression, technical prowess, and in perfect harmony with the orchestra.  The evening concluded with Brahms’ masterful Symphony No. 2, followed by an encore performance featuring Brahms’ Hungarian Dance #5. The audience erupted into applause.
