Frost Student And Alumni Score Latin Grammy Awards

The Frost School of Music at the University of Miami is pleased to announce a current student and three alumni received the prestigious LATIN GRAMMY AWARD at the 20th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards® telecast live Thursday, November 14th from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on the Univision Network.

The winners are as follows:

Carlos Fernando Lopez, B.M. '12

Julio Reyes Copello, M.M. '00 

  • Record of the year
    • Mi Persona Favorita – Alejandro Sanz (producer and engineer)

George Noriega, B.M. '96 

  • Song of the Year
    • Calma – Pedro Capo (songwriter)

 

Julio Reyes Copello and Carlos Fernando Lopez who met at FSoM have collaborated on more than 200 songs by artists like Ricky Martin, Laura Pausini, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony. This marks Carlos’ first  Latin Grammy win and Julio’s third.   George Noriega came to prominence in the late 1990s as he helped Latin artists such as Ricky Martin, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez cross over into the English pop music market and his work with the Estefans.  This is his third Latin Grammy win.

The LATIN GRAMMY AWARD is the preeminent international honor celebrating excellence in Latin music and the only peer-presented Latin music accolade.
