Professor Rivera earned an Emmy Award in 2018 for his main title theme for the Scott Frank Netflix limited Series, Godless. Godless garnered three Emmy wins and 13 nominations, of which Carlos Rafael Rivera was also nominated for Outstanding Music Composition.

The Queen’s Gambit has been receiving rave reviews including those for Professor Rivera’s score: "Composer Carlos Rafael Rivera, whose soaring work does more heavy lifting than any TV score this year!" – The Hollywood Reporter

"I have always loved underdog tales like Rocky, or Rudy," states Professor Rivera. "The moment I read Scott Frank’s teleplay, I knew getting to work with him in telling Beth Harmon’s story would be one of the great thrills of my life. It was something special, and to say the least, challenging, as we were going to have to make the game of Chess exciting on screen for those who play it - and even for those who don’t."

Carlos Rafael Rivera’s career has spanned several genres of the music industry. In addition to The Queen’s Gambit and Godless, his scores include Universal Pictures’ A Walk Among The Tombstones, starring Liam Neeson.

As an award-winning member of the Frost faculty, Carlos Rafael Rivera is one of the many reasons The Frost School of Music has been named one of the Top 25 Music Schools for Composing for Film and TV five consecutive years by the prestigious entertainment publication The Hollywood Reporter.
