Frost celebrates two GRAMMY® winners

The Frost School of Music is proud to congratulate its renowned faculty member, Maria Schneider, and talented alumnus, James K. Bass, both honored with GRAMMY® Awards on March 14th, 2021 at the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards ceremony.

Maria Schneider, Artistic Director of the Frost School’s Henry Mancini Institute received two GRAMMY® awards for her latest release Data Lords, in the categories of Best Large Jazz Ensemble and Best Instrumental Composition for “Sputnik.” The awards for Data Lords called “the most daring work of Schneider’s career” by Nate Chinen of NPR.com, marks Maria’s 7th GRAMMY® Award. A trailblazer for crowdfunding recordings, she first made history in 2004 receiving her first GRAMMY® for an internet-only sales album.

Chorus Master James K. Bass, D.M.A. ’05, a six-time nominee, received his first GRAMMY® award for Best Choral Performance for “Danielpour: The Passion of Yeshua,” a dramatic oratorio of the braiding of two faiths, Judaism and Christianity.

“All of us at the Frost School congratulate Maria Schneider and James K. Bass on their GRAMMY wins. Both of these brilliant artists exemplify excellence in recording and to be honored by your peers is truly the ultimate reward,” stated Dean Shelly Berg.
