Juraj Kojs and Brian Lynch awarded Knight Foundation grants

The Frost School of Music at the University of Miami congratulates esteemed faculty members Juraj Kojs, Assistant Professor of Professional Practice and Brian Lynch, Professor Jazz Trumpet on being awarded the distinguished Knight New Work 2020 grant.

Professor Kojs was chosen for his multi-music composition for voices instruments and laptops, “Where Home Is,” which explores the theme of immigration and citizenship from the perspective of a recently naturalized U.S. citizen.

Professor Lynch was selected for “7 for 7 by 7: A Jazz Work Exploring Distance, Interaction and Chance.” The work features seven performances for seven minutes by seven musicians totaling 343 new pieces for a jazz septet exploring the nature of interaction at a distance.

Inspired by the resilience and creativity displayed by artists during the pandemic, the Knight Foundation recently announced their Knight New Work 2020 grants. Both professors were among a diverse group of 18-Miami based artists and arts organizations pushing the boundaries on how the performing arts are created and experienced.
