In this iteration, Shelly Berg, 5-Time GRAMMY®-nominated Dean of the Frost School of Music, and GRAMMY-nominated, internationally acclaimed jazz pianist, Martin Bejerano Associate Professor of Jazz Piano, explore bridging the distance between the classical and jazz genres. With genre-bending improvisation, they take on works of great classical composers such as Bach, Chopin, and Beethoven, followed by works of jazz artists that have borrowed from them, and explore the lasting influence of music from centuries ago demonstrating the two worlds are more similar than many believe.

"With the second installment of our Frost Music Masters video series, we explore the intersecting worlds of classical and jazz music and how iconic composers (Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin) were prodigious improvisers, like so many jazz artists of today. This presentation exemplifies our school’s philosophy, teaching students to break barriers between disciplines and providing them with the opportunity to perform and learn across departments and genres," stated Dean Shelly Berg.

Whether you’re a musician or not, you’ll enjoy seeing how these masters' invaluable insight and performance techniques, coupled with the school’s principles of teaching leads to success for students, as they "Build Themselves” @Frost!"
