Cyrille Aimée named Artist-In-Residence for jazz voice
The announcement was made by Kate Reid, Director of the Jazz Vocal Performance program and Associate Professor of jazz voice in the Studio Music and Jazz department, who stated: “We are excited Cyrille is joining us at Frost this year and look forward to the artistry and depth of career experience she will bring to our students.”

Cyrille is no stranger to the Jazz Vocal Performance Program at Frost. Previously as a guest artist, she has performed in concert with the students of the program and conducted a masterclass. For her residency, each week she’s on campus she will be meeting with students for one-on-one lessons, conduct masterclasses, and meet and coach the jazz vocal ensembles. Throughout the 4-week residency, Cyrille will lead a composition/songwriting project with the jazz vocal students culminating in a recording/video project to be completed and presented in concert in April. For this concert, she will also perform with the jazz vocal ensembles and sing a solo set with the instrumental students of the Studio Music and Jazz department.

Improvisation is not just a technique for the GRAMMY® nominated artist Cyrille Aimée. It’s a way of life. The acclaimed vocalist ventured from singing on street corners in Europe to dazzling audiences at the world’s most prestigious jazz festivals; from sneaking out to sing in gypsy encampments in her native France to acting on Broadway; from braving the notoriously tough audiences at New York’s Apollo Theatre to being called a “rising star in the galaxy of jazz singers” by the New York Times. Among countless accolades, Aimée won the Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Competition and the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition.
