The renowned Choral Studies program at the Frost School of Music has added an illustrious new faculty member. New Assistant Professor of Professional Practice Matthew Brady has extensive experience as a choral conductor, clinician, professional singer, and educator at the collegiate, middle and high school levels, and will teach courses in Choral Ensembles, Choral Literature, and Conducting.

“Professor Brady brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role here at the Frost School of Music,” says Amanda Quist, director of Choral Studies. “His teaching approach is marked by a positive energy, a bright light, and an intellectual curiosity that is sure to inspire students and colleagues alike. His commitment to musical excellence and his passion for choral music make him a valuable addition to the Frost Choral Studies program.”

Brady previously served as director of Choral Studies at the New Mexico Military Institute and at Cal State San Bernadino, and taught in the Michigan Public Schools. He enjoys an active choral singing career, and has sung professionally with the Philadelphia Symphonic Chorus alongside the Philadelphia Orchestra and at the renowned Spoleto Festival, as well as with the New York Philharmonic, the Dallas Choral Festival, and the Westminster Summer Festival Chorus. The artistic director of Collegium Musicum of Miami, Brady is in demand as a professional conductor and clinician. He recently led festival performances at Carnegie Hall, and served as guest conductor of the New Mexico All State Choir and the Broward County Honor Choir. His educational background includes conducting and singing at the University of Birmingham in the UK as a protégé of three-time Grammy winner Simon Halsey, as well as Westminster Choir College, Western Michigan University, and the University of North Texas.

“I am overjoyed to be joining the illustrious Choral Studies program led by Dr. Amanda Quist, and the star-studded Vocal Performance department,” says Brady. “The Frost School of Music is a pacesetter whose world class faculty engages with, inspires, and leads brilliant young musicians to embrace the breadth of music’s potential and future. I am humbled to be a part of the impassioned, meaningful, impactful, and beautifully crafted music being created here.”

“At the core of who I am as a musician and educator is the notion that great art, and the pursuit of artistic excellence, can make us better people, and by extension can make the world a better place," Brady continues. "I know that Frost shares this ideal as it unites our faculty, students, and administration towards the goal of creating an ever brighter future. I am proud to be a part of this musical family.”
