Three alumni and a faculty member from the Frost School of Music were included in nominations for the 27th Latin GRAMMY Awards this week, continuing the school’s strong showing in the most important honor in Latin music.
Leading them was producer and songwriter Federico Vindver, B.M. ’08, continuing his highly successful work with his countrymen, Argentine artists CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso, who earned seven nominations. Vindver, the co-producer and a songwriter on the hybrid musical duo’s “Free Spirits,” was nominated six times, sharing in the duo’s nominations for Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Alternative Album and Best Pop/Rock Song. Vindver was once again nominated for Producer of the Year, an award he won at last year’s Latin GRAMMYs.
Alumna Raquel Sofia, B.M. ’09, earned her fifth Latin GRAMMY nomination, for Best Pop Song for “(favorito),” with fellow songwriter nic. The bicultural Puerto Rican singer and songwriter, who performed at the Frost School and University of Miami Centennial Celebration concert in April 2025, has previously been nominated for Best New Artist, Best Traditional Pop Album, Best Singer-Songwriter Album, and Best Pop Song.
Frost School Music Engineering Technology alum Isaac Diskin, B.S. ’21, was a recording engineer on “Lux,” from classically trained Spanish artist Rosalía, a global star who received seven nominations. Diskin shares in the nominations “Lux” received for Album of the Year and Best Engineered Album, as well as Record of the Year for “La Perla,” a track from the album.
Faculty member Gonzalo Rubalcaba is an acclaimed Cuban jazz pianist and composer who is a regular presence at the Latin GRAMMYs, with nine previous nominations and three awards. Rubalcaba was nominated twice this year, for Best Latin Jazz/Jazz Album for “Gonzalo Plays Pino,” and for Best Instrumental Album for “A Tribute To Benny Moré And Nat King Cole,” with Joey Calveiro and Yainer Horta.
The 27th annual Latin Grammy Awards take place on Nov. 12 in Las Vegas and will be telecast live on Univision.
