The students presented a hypothetical scenario to discuss the ethical implications of the use of a social network site to obtain case-breaking information, using advertising such as Groupon to advertise their services, and the ethical duties imposed on attorneys when they offer limited-scope representation, sometimes referred to as "un-bundled" services.
"Presenting for CABA was an amazing experience," Daniels said, reflecting on the training. "The attorneys were very engaged and had great insight into the practical issues that social media and limited representation create. One of the great things about the PREP program is that the presentations allow students to learn about ethical issues from an academic and a practical perspective."
Muniz also weighed in. "Social media issues always seem to provoke dynamic conversations, and given the recent development in these cutting-edge controversies, it was fascinating to discuss the attorney's encounters with these problems in the field," he said.
The Professional Responsibility and Ethics Program develops and presents continuing legal education ethics training for the South Florida legal community, and has educated thousands of members of the Florida Bench and Bar. The experience serves as a great opportunity for students to learn about ethical issues and, through their presentations, facilitate discussion within the legal community.
