Miami Law Picks Up High Rankings for Innovation in PreLaw Magazine + Others

It is not a coincidence Miami Law has been named as one of the most innovative law schools in the U.S. and overseas in recent years. When Dean Patricia White took the helm of the school in 2009, she told the law school magazine, “We intend that this school be a model of what legal education can look like going forward in the 21st century in a multicultural and global world. There is no better place to be thinking about these issues than Miami.”

Pre-Law Magazine recently recognized this innovation, ranking Miami Law as one of the "20 Most Innovative Law Schools" in its fall 2017 edition. That publication highlighted Miami Law’s LawWithoutWalls (LWOW) program, launched in 2011. Director and founder, Miami Law Professor Michele DeStefano told the magazine, “We are changing the way we train future lawyers and also the way lawyers practice.”

Similarly, Innovation 800, published in 2017 by Cambridge University, included Miami Law as a "Leader in Learning" and one of the most innovative law schools. The profile on the law school titled, “School of Thought” echoed the school’s innovative focus quoting Dean White that she “was determined we would anticipate changes and lead the pack in terms of preparing students for a changing world.”

The London-based Financial Times, considered one of the premiere international daily newspapers with a special emphasis on business and economic news, has also tipped its hat to Miami Law’s innovation. In its “FT Special Report on Innovative Law Schools”, it ranked Miami Law as one of the most innovative law schools in the world in both 2015 and 2016.

Innovation accolades also came for Miami Law's specialty areas, such as the Billboard Magazine 2017 ranking of Miami Law as a top school for music law in the U.S.

Legal Services Innovation Index chose University of Miami Law as one of only 8 schools on the Law School Innovation Index in 2016.

The National Jurist magazine recognized Dean White’s drive for innovation acknowledging her as the most influential woman in legal education in 2012, and also named her to the same top-25 listing in their 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 editions. In addition Dean White was selected to serve on the Commission on the Future of Legal Education founded by ABA President Hilarie Bass, J.D. '81, in 2017.
