Some Miami Law clinic highlights include:

BANKRUPTCY ASSISTANCE CLINIC:

Director Patricia Redmond, J.D. '79, Elected Chair of the American College of Bankruptcy Board of Regents

The first woman to hold the position, Patricia Redmond is the director of Miami Law's Eleanor R. Cristol and Judge A. Jay Cristol Bankruptcy Pro Bono Assistance Clinic. The Board of Regents is responsible for nominating and selecting qualified candidates for fellowship in the College.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH LAW CLINIC:

Children and Youth Law Clinic Fellow Receives the NACC Award

The National Association of Counsel for Children named Alex Cinney their Outstanding Law Student for 2022. Cinney, J.D. '22, came to Miami Law because of her interest in family law and dedication to underserved children and families.

ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE CLINIC:

 $1 Million Cy Pres Award to Miami Law Will Support Environmental Law Efforts

The University of Miami School of Law recently received a $1 million cy pres award as part of the distribution of a settlement fund relating to fuel economy for gasoline-powered vehicles. The School of Law will use the funds to support the work of the Environmental Justice Clinic and the Environmental Law Program.

HEALTH RIGHTS CLINIC:

Fighting for the Afflicted and Underserved: Health Rights Clinic Secured Multiple Wins for Clients in 2022

The clinic won eight Social Security/public benefits cases on behalf of disabled clients and helped three cancer survivors and one immunocompromised domestic violence survivor become U.S. citizens.

HUMAN RIGHTS CLINIC:

Human Rights Clinic Hosts International Human Rights Clinicians Conference

Clinical faculty from around the world attended the annual gathering of international human rights clinicians. Topics covered art and human rights, community-centric clinics, cross-country collaborations, environmental justice, and Indigenous rights.

IMMIGRATION CLINIC:

Miami Law Starts New Immigration Legal Assistance Program

The Immigration Clinic and the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida joined other universities to create a legal assistance program to serve individuals detained in ICE custody at the Baker County Detention Center in northern Florida.

INNOCENCE CLINIC:

Innocence Clinic Celebrates One Year Since Dustin Duty's Exoneration

October 27, 2022, marks the anniversary when prosecutors dropped all charges against Dustin Duty after five years of diligent work by the Miami Law Innocence Clinic and Florida Innocence Project. Wrongfully convicted of armed robbery in a court of law eight years ago, Dustin Duty is now a free man.

INVESTOR RIGHTS CLINIC: 

Investor Rights Clinic Presents at the 2022 SEC Investor Advocacy Clinic Summit

One of only two law schools invited to participate, students from the Investor Rights Clinic presented at a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission event, "Safeguarding the Golden Years: Avoiding Financial Fraud."
