The University of Miami School of Law is ranked the #43 best U.S. law school selected in the 2023 QS World University Subject Rankings for law and legal studies. This top ranking comes on the heels of Miami Law’s strong Super Lawyers ranking.

Now in its 20th year, the QS World University Rankings are annual rankings of the world’s top universities in individual subject areas. Published by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the rankings help prospective students identify the world’s leading schools in a particular subject and are regarded as one of the most influential and widely respected international university rankings.

The 2023 list included a total of 352 select worldwide law schools. In 2021, Miami Law was ranked #50 for U.S. law schools.

Key Components to the Rankings

Believed to be the largest of its kind, the yearly QS subject rankings assess performance according to five areas: academic reputation, employer reputation, research, H-index (based on most cited papers), and international research network.

According to the site, if a university does not appear, “it does not mean that it is a ‘bad’ university. Merely that it doesn’t score highly enough on QS’s chosen indicators to feature in that particular rankings table.”

In 2023, surveys were conducted with over 130,000 individuals in the worldwide higher education space. The rankings surveyed over 75,000 employers, asking them to identify up to 10 domestic and 30 international institutions they consider excellent for recruiting graduates.

According to QS World Ranking officials, this year’s rankings represent a major step in the evolution of the exercise, marking the most significant innovation in its methodological paradigm since its inception two decades ago.
