The Anti-Defamation League recently presented the Jurisprudence and Community Champion Awards at its first Partners Against Hate Luncheon Event to leaders who exemplify the principles and mission upon which ADL was founded. It built on ADL's 30-year legacy of celebrating members of Miami's legal community.

Detra Shaw-Wilder, a litigation partner at Kozyak, Tropin, & Throckmorton and currently the firm's General Counsel, received the ADL Jurisprudence Award. The award honors individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the legal profession while exemplifying the principles and mission of the ADL: to stop the defamation of Jewish people and secure fair justice and treatment for all.

“I am humbled to have received the Jurisprudence Award from the ADL and proud to join previous award recipients such as H.T. Smith, Aaron Podhurst, John Kozyak, Marilyn Holifield and Edith Osman, who are legal giants," Shaw-Wilder said. "The University of Miami School of Law has produced many leaders who have inspired me to want to serve and make a difference in the legal community. The ADL has a history of fighting against hate in all forms and I am honored that the ADL has deemed my service to the legal profession and my commitment to diversity and fairness to be worthy of this recognition.”

In over 20 years of practice at KT&T, Shaw-Wilder has litigated and arbitrated numerous business litigation matters, corporate shareholder disputes, contract and commercial real estate disputes, and receivership matters.

She has served as a panelist on complex litigation matters and an instructor in the Florida Association of Women Lawyers' trial skills programs, where she lectures on effective cross and direct examination of expert witnesses. She received the DBR's Most Effective Lawyer recognition for her role as co-lead litigation counsel in a complex arbitration matter and lead litigation counsel in a complex real estate litigation matter. She has been recognized as one of the Top 10 Women in Law. She has received numerous awards and recognition from the bench, bar, and community, including the Joel Eaton Award from the United States Court for the Southern District of Florida, the Silver Medallion Award from the MCCJ, and the Thomas Davidson Award from Miami Law.

Shaw-Wilder is passionate about community involvement. She is a well-established leader in the legal community. She has served as chair of the Business Litigation Committee of the Florida Bar Business Law Section, president of the University of Miami Law Alumni Association, co-founder of the Kozyak Minority Foundation, and board member and Region XI Director for the National Bar Association. She was a long-term member of the Federal Grievance Committee for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. She previously served on the Florida Bar Grievance Committee for the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida.
