The University Libraries are pleased to announce the appointment of Dhanushka Samarakoon as the new head of Library Technology. In this role, Dhanushka will provide leadership, management, and budgetary oversight for the Libraries’ public and internal information technology infrastructure, and lead support and administration of our shared Alma/Primo platforms and related enterprise applications. He will work closely with personnel in all University Libraries and UMIT to identify and meet technology needs and expectations, and supervise and mentor the Library Information Technology Department, including the Integrated Systems Librarian and Systems Support Manager.

Dhanushka comes to the University of Miami with over 12 years of experience in academic library information technology, serving most recently at the University of Utah Libraries where he was the assistant head of Software Development. Prior to the University of Utah, he served as programming lead for the Hale Library of Kansas State University. He has led many projects and teams at both institutions, including Kansas State University’s development of the Workflow Management System, design of server and storage infrastructure, development of integrations and automated workflows for both Alma and Primo, development of a unified discovery system for the University of Utah Libraries and museum, and implementation and support of numerous platforms/services.

He earned his M.L.S. with a concentration in leadership and administration from Emporia State University and has a Bachelor of Information Technology from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, as well as a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in information technology from the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology.
