The University Libraries are pleased to welcome Layal Hneiny as clinical research librarian for the Learning, Research, and Clinical Information Services department at the Louis Calder Memorial Library, effective June 5, 2023. In this role, Layal collaborates with researchers on systematic reviews as part of the evidence synthesis review service. She also provides research and reference services to students, faculty, staff, residents, and hospital teaching personnel at the Miller School of Medicine.

Layal has contributed to over 20 publications on health sciences topics as a librarian coauthor on systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and other evidence synthesis reviews, and she has been acknowledged in numerous articles. She previously served as health sciences librarian at the University of South Dakota Wegner Library and the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. At both institutions, she provided instructional, reference, liaison, and outreach services to the universities’ communities and their libraries’ partner groups.

Layal earned a Master of Library and Information Science degree, with a concentration in health informatics, from the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. She also holds a Master of Public Health degree from the American University of Beirut.
