The University Libraries are pleased to welcome Miranda García as librarian for the Cuban Heritage Collection at the Otto G. Richter Library, effective August 24, 2026. In this role, Miranda helps steward the Collection’s extensive holdings, foster access to its materials, and create dynamic programming that engages the University and broader community. She also collaborates with colleagues at the Libraries to make scholarship on Cuba and its diaspora accessible to a diverse audience.
Miranda is an anthropologist and scholar of Cuba and its diaspora whose research draws on ethnography, oral history, and archival research. Her work explores topics including collective memory in Little Havana nostalgia shops, Cuban identity, and Cuba’s emerging private sector. She brings an interdisciplinary and multimedia approach to the role, including producing a short documentary film at her Havana field site that has been screened for local and international audiences and at film festivals. Her research has been supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation, the Wenner-Gren Foundation, and the Mellon Foundation, and has received awards from the Society for Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology and the Association for the Study of the Cuban Economy.
Miranda holds a B.A. in anthropology and art history from the University of Chicago as well as an M.A. and Ph.D. in sociocultural anthropology from the University of Michigan. She developed a deep connection with the Cuban Heritage Collection and its community while conducting research in 2019 as a fellow under the Goizueta Foundation Graduate Fellowship Program.
