University Libraries appoint archivist for the Cuban Heritage Collection and Spanish language collections

The University Libraries are pleased to announce the appointment of Juan A. Villanueva as archivist for the Cuban Heritage Collection and Spanish language collections in the Manuscripts and Archives Management department, effective September 1, 2023. In this role, Juan is responsible for accessioning, describing, and arranging archival collections within the Libraries’ distinctive collections.

Juan began with the University Libraries as a student employee nearly a decade ago, providing him with a wealth of experience in archival processing. He previously served as archives manager and public services coordinator for the Cuban Heritage Collection, where he managed archival processes, supervised staff, coordinated reading room operations, engaged with community stakeholders and donors, and provided reference services to patrons.

In December 2022, Juan earned a Master of Science in Information from Florida State University in Tallahassee. He holds a Bachelor of Arts with concentrations in biology and education from the University of Miami.
