Showcasing Student Research

Work of 11 SONHS undergrads featured in inaugural Research, Creativity, and Innovation Forum Abstract Book
Showcasing Student Research

Organizers of the 2020 Research, Creativity, and Innovation Forum (RCIF) launched the first official RCIF Abstract Book. The book, which is available in pdf and digital formats, offers a glimpse into all of the outstanding projects over 100 student presenters would have showcased during the RCIF, which has celebrated undergraduate research from a wide range of disciplines at the University of Miami every year since 2008. Although the March 31 event was cancelled due to COVID-19 safety concerns, the School of Nursing and Health Studies had a strong showing as usual, with eight research projects from eleven students featured in the electronic publication—more than any other school besides the College of Arts & Sciences. This inaugural book includes research from public health majors Karina Cepeda, Tatiana Esparza, Lydia Franklin, Emily Hawver, Maryam Jawid, Megan Nguyen, Willow Webb, and Nina Wojtowicz; nursing majors Juliana Byers and Maeher Grewal; and health science/religious studies major Azin Pooresmaeil. Their research topics ranged from the use of podcasts to promote sexual health education, to understanding the neurobehavioral bases of memory, to an examination of e-cigarette use among college students, among others. Their SONHS faculty research mentors were Andrew Porter, Ashley Falcon, and Rosina Cianelli. Read the students’ work at https://ugr.miami.edu/rcif/abstracts/index.html.
