An impressive team from S.H.A.R.E. Simulation Hospital Advancing Research & Education® (S.H.A.R.E.) took part in the 25th anniversary of the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH 2025), hosted by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). The group led presentations, showcased their expertise, and explored the many advances taking place in simulation technology during the four-day event billed as the world’s largest simulation conference.
One notable advance came from the team’s newest member, Dr. Frank Guido-Sanz, S.H.A.R.E.’s associate dean for simulation research and education and professor of clinical at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies. Dr. Guido-Sanz joined the University of Miami at the start of 2025 from the University of Central Florida (UCF). He and his former UCF team won the SimVentors Showcase Award in the Best Innovation category for “System to Visualize, Measure, and Track Simulated Wounds in 3D," as well as SSH’s Virtual Simulation Section recognition for excellence in innovation in the field of virtual simulation. Dr. Guido-Sanz also contributed as a speaker in five conference presentations on topics ranging from education and research in public health to simulation equipment in health care education.
Drs. Greta Mitzova-Vladinov and Nicole Gonzaga Gomez, director and associate director, respectively, of the school’s B.S.N.-D.N.P. Nurse Anesthesia Program, presented “Reflections and Innovations in Anesthesia Simulation” with their former student JP Moyle. D.N.P. ’23. Their talk highlighted new simulation-based education trends for malignant hyperthermia, a rare but severe hypermetabolic reaction to certain anesthesia drugs, and the effectiveness of video-based and virtual reality (VR) simulations. “We were proud to share our innovative work in simulation-based education for malignant hyperthermia at IMSH 2025 and be part of this great community,” said Dr. Mitzova-Vladinov.
Simulation technician Camila Venegas demonstrated her wound simulation artistry in a SimVentors Showcase station titled "Experience a Synchronous Immersion Using Anatomy and Moulage in Nursing Education.” Three other S.H.A.R.E. team members, Robert Brau, lead simulation technologist; Zuzer Calero, executive director for business operations; and Jacqueline Lopez, simulation educator, attended IMSH 2025 as well, seeking out promising new resources to enrich the student learning experience through simulation. Themed “Looking Back, Reaching Forward,” IMSH 2025 took place January 10 to 14 in Orlando, Florida. For more information, visit https://imsh2025.org.
