Using student-athletes name, image, or likeness

NCAA bylaws prohibit boosters, local businesses, and corporate entities from using a student-athlete’s name, picture, or likeness to promote any commercial product. A student-athlete cannot authorize the use of his or her name or picture on commercial items.

Student-athletes may express an opinion about a product, service, or item, but their eligibility may be jeopardized if the business uses a student-athlete’s name, image, or likeness to promote a product with or without the permission of the student-athlete.

Approval may be granted under specific circumstances, which includes promoting non-profit organizations, charities, or other University of Miami initiatives. To learn more or request details regarding student-athlete promotional activity contact the UM Athletics Department and complete the “Promotional Activity Request Form,” available at hurricanesports.com.
