Throughout the month of April, the University’s Title IX Office, It’s on Us student ambassadors, and campus and community partners will host educational and interactive opportunities to raise awareness, support survivors, and educate individuals on how to prevent sexual assault.

Every April, national Sexual Assault Awareness Month provides an opportunity for the University of Miami community to come together in supporting survivors of sexual assault and to have meaningful conversations about how to prevent and address abuse. In support of this important cause, the University’s Title IX Office, It’s on Us student ambassadors, and other campus and community partners will host a number of events for faculty, staff, students, and community members to attend. 

Raising the Flag: Supporting Survivors of Sexual Violence
Monday, April 3, at 3:30 p.m.

Join the Counseling Center peer educators and the UM Counseling Center for a resource fair and special program recognizing the prevalence of sexual assault on college campuses. This event will take place by the Rock Plaza; registration is not necessary.

It’s On Us Spring Week of Action
April 10–14

Hosted by the It’s on Us Student Ambassadors, events scheduled throughout the week will dive into various topics related to sexual assault awareness, dating, and more. View the full listing of events and register.

Trauma Conscious Yoga—offered by the Title IX Office in partnership with the Patti and Allan Herbert Wellness Center
Wednesday, April 12, at 6 p.m.

Led by a trauma-conscious trained coach, participate in a special yoga class and learn how yoga can be a tool in reasserting control. This free session is open to students and faculty and staff members, regardless of their experience with trauma. Registration is required. Reserve your spot.

Self-Defense Awareness Familiarization Exchange (S.A.F.E.) class
Wednesday, April 19, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In partnership with the University of Miami Police Department, the Title IX Office will offer a two-hour crime-victim prevention program that encompasses strategies, techniques, and options that may reduce the risk of exposure to violence while introducing aspects of physical self-defense. Registration for the S.A.F.E class is limited to 20 participants. Secure your spot.

Denim Day 2023
Wednesday, April 26

In support of the longest running sexual violence prevention campaign in history, the University community is encouraged to participate in Denim Day. Take part by wearing jeans in solidarity with sexual assault survivors. This campaign aims to raise awareness about misconceptions surrounding sexual violence.
