Cyberattacks continue to be a growing concern for major universities and health care organizations being targeted. These attacks have compromised tens of millions of documents and exposed sensitive information.
As part of our proactive cybersecurity measures, the University has revised its Information Technology (IT) Security Incident Reporting policy to require all employees to report possible or actual IT security incidents to Help Desk representatives without delay. This policy allows us to react quickly to potential threats before they can harm the University.
Common examples of IT security incidents include sharing system sign-on credentials, clicking on links in phishing emails, and divulging protected information to unauthorized parties.
Faculty and staff members who suspect they may have prompted an IT security incident are asked to contact their Help Desk immediately.
- University of Miami Coral Gables and Marine campus employees can reach the UMIT Help Desk at 305-284-6565 or infosec@miami.edu.
- UHealth campus and clinics's employees can reach the UHealthIT Help Desk at 305-243-5999 or infosec@miami.edu.
The updated policy builds upon University IT protections that reflect the best practices recommended by the FBI, the agency that investigates cybercrimes in the U.S. As a reminder, the University of Miami will never ask for sensitive information. At the University of Miami, cybersecurity is everyone’s responsibility.
