5 things you need to know this week

A weekly series designed to highlight events, benefits, perks, and items of interest for the University of Miami community.

Take a break and unwind with progressive muscle relaxation.
Tuesday, June 11, at noon and 4 p.m
An evidence-based relaxation technique used to manage physical and mental stress, progressive muscle relaxation has been found to reduce levels of cortisol, a hormone released in response to stress. Regular use of this technique may help you gain a greater sense of control over your body’s stress response and get a better night’s sleep. Take a break and join a Faculty and Staff Assistance Program consultant for this 30-minute webinar in which participants will be guided through a progressive muscle relaxation exercise to release tension and stress. Register to attend the virtual session at noon or 4 p.m.

Meet the interim vice provost for research and scholarship.
Friday, June 14, at 10 a.m.
Join Guillermo “Willy” Prado, interim executive vice president for academic affairs and provost, for a special event to network with faculty colleagues and meet Maria Luisa Alcaide, interim vice provost for research and scholarship. Register to attend the June 14 event at the Lois Pope LIFE Center’s Apex Auditorium on the Medical Campus. A second meet and greet session will be held on the Coral Gables Campus on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Plant your own garden on the Medical Campus.
Sign up now.
This fall, University staff members will have the opportunity to book a small lot of the Miller Herb and Food Garden, which is located on the Medical Campus in front of the Louis Calder Memorial Library. This is a great opportunity for participants who live in condos or townhouses to have a green space of their own and flex their green thumb. Lots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact Monika Chojnacka at mxc2354@miami.edu to get started.
