Miami Announces the Watsco Center

“Today’s announcement is an exciting new chapter for the University of Miami,” said Director of Athletics Blake James. “Watsco has supported us in many ways through the years and we are thrilled to solidify their commitment over the long-term given their care and passion for the University of Miami.”

Watsco, Inc., based in Miami, is traded on the New York Stock Exchange and is the largest distributor of air conditioning, heating and refrigeration products with annual sales of more than $4 billion, 5,000 employees and 563 locations throughout North America. Watsco has provided funding to the University since the 1990s through its "Watsco’s Kids" program, providing children in the community free access to performance arts, sports and other events at the University.

Albert Nahmad, Watsco’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said: “Continued support of the University's leadership, faculty and students as well as our community has been our goal over the past several years.  The University provides tremendous value to our community and we are proud to be a supporter.  One more thing - GO CANES!

The Watsco Center, located in the heart of the Coral Gables campus and formerly known as the BankUnited Center, is the largest multi-purpose entertainment facility of its kind south of downtown Miami, with more than 200,000 square feet, 8,000 seats and 25 executive suites.  The venue has played host to numerous nationally televised University of Miami men’s and women’s college basketball games, world-class musicians and performers, community events, and several presidential debates, forums and rallies.
