How to be smart about your smart home

In honor of national cyber security awareness month, each week we’ll be taking a closer look at popular digital platforms. This week we’re talking about how to protect your home from the devices that make them smarter but more vulnerable to a host of potential security issues.
Smart Devices - Protecting Your Connected Home

Today most of us have the ability to or know someone that can control their home’s thermostat from the comfort of their couch, or remotely, with the touch of a button using their smart devices. Thanks to the internet of things—the network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances, and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and connectivity which enables these things to connect, collect, and exchange data—we can now design our homes to be smart hubs that provide a number of benefits and convenience but with a few concerns about our privacy and security. If not careful, your device’s “brains” can quickly turn into a breeding ground for botnet “zombies.”
