Open Enrollment top five FAQs

From premiums to selection deadlines, we’re answering the top OE questions.
Open Enrollment FAQs

Why do premiums increase each year?

Medical costs increase each year across the U.S., including the costs in the UM plan. Even though UM subsidizes approximately 80% of the cost of the plan, premiums typically increase each year to keep up with the overall plan costs.  This year the plan costs were higher than a typical year, so the premiums and deductibles were changed as a result.

When does the deductible apply?

In Select 1 and Select 2, the deductible applies to all services except for prescription drugs, preventive care services and Carisk mental health services.  In the HRA plan, the deductible applies to all services except for preventive care services and Carisk mental health services. Visit aetna.com for tools to help anticipate how much of your deductible you’ll pay for things like doctor’s visits.  Once you’ve met your deductible, copays apply.

When do these benefits take effect?

Benefits selected during Open Enrollment take effect on Jan. 1, 2019.  All benefits roll over automatically except for Flexible Spending Accounts.
