Among the hospital cafeterias sprinkled across the health district in downtown Miami, you’ll find a number of retail eateries offering an array of cuisines during a variety of hours. Using five key landmarks on the medical campus, we’re mapping out what’s located nearby to help you decide where to go for a sit-down meal or snack on-the-go.

NORTH - Near Jackson Memorial Hospital
For a hearty meal and tastes from around the globe, head over to the Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH) cafeteria. Located on the first floor, it’s open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Jackson employees can get a discount by presenting their work badge.
EAST - Near Bascom Palmer Eye Institute
On the east and west side of the Jackson Park Plaza parking garage, you’ll find almost a dozen retail food shops. From Moe’s Southwest Grill and La Carreta to Au Bon Pain and Einstein’s Bros. Bagels, there’s something for everyone. Plus the Starbucks located here is open 24 hours in case you need a pick-me-up.
Just south of Park Plaza you’ll find Market Coffee adjacent to the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Here you can grab a quick bite to-go or visit the food truck stationed right outside that changes its menu weekly.
WEST - Near University of Miami Hospital
For a freshly cooked meal, including omelets and DIY waffles for breakfast, head to the University of Miami Hospital (UMH) cafeteria. Located on 12th Street across from the Civic Center metrorail stop, the UMH cafeteria is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. UM employees and Miller School students can get 40 percent off their purchase when they present their ’Cane ID.
The Starbucks at UMH is the most popular, particularly during rush hour around 8 a.m., 12 p.m., and 3 p.m., according to the locals. Snag the special that rotates each week for a deal.
The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center cafeteria serves hot food and if you’re near alex’s place, there’s a Market Coffee conveniently located on the first floor.
CENTRAL - Near Lois Pope Life Center
At the base of the Park Plaza West garage, you’ll find a handful of eateries. For quick pick-up, pre-order or use the fast lane kiosk at Panera Bread. Snag a breakfast combo at Viena Café, which includes coffee, a sandwich, and snack for $5.99. There’s also a Burger King and Pollo Tropical conveniently located nearby.
SOUTH - Near Dominion Tower
At Civica Center, head upstairs to La Estancia Argentina during the week from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. for casual sit-down dining, complete with wine selection, butcher, and bakery offerings. If you’re on-the-go, Jimmy Johns, Smoothie King, and Dunkin Donuts can satisfy your cravings.
Jackson Food, a new spot, offers a lunch special while Gilbert’s Bakery, open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., provides all with a boost of cafecito Cubano and pastelitos.
If you’re in the Don Soffer Clinical Research Center—known as the Clinical Research Building, you can find a quick spot to eat at Central Table Café near the UHealth Fitness and Wellness Center on the ninth floor.
Market Thursdays at the Miller School
From ceviche to gyros, and homemade soaps to chia balls, the Well ’Canes market offers a delightful mix of healthy and delicious food options, as well as handmade goods, smoothies, and flowers. Stop by the Fred Cowell Mall at the Miller School—in front of the Calder Library and Starbucks—on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and treat yourself to market finds.
