Each year the Hurry ’Canes Shuttles provide more than 700,000 rides to students, faculty, staff, and visitors across the Coral Gables campus and to the Rosenstiel marine campus on Virginia Key. Starting Monday, Aug. 12, a new fleet of buses will arrive to continue supporting the University community, complete with a brand new look.

“The Hurry ’Canes Shuttle program is a crucial component of our overall strategy to offer safe and reliable mobility options to the ’Canes community,” said Lluvia Resendiz, senior mobility manager for Parking and Transportation.

Efficient and accessible
The new shuttles will accommodate twice as many passengers as the previous fleet, alleviating overcrowding during the busiest times of the day. Bigger buses mean no one is left behind.

Look forward to reduced wait times. Equipped with front and rear doors, the new shuttles will be more efficient by offering two ways to get on and off the buses.

Safety first
The new buses are equipped with safety features, including DriveCam, a fleet management system and safety camera that records a 20-second video of the bus interior if the driver hits the breaks or stops suddenly. The system also monitors the speed of the bus and provides safety reports for each driver.

In the event of an emergency, the shuttles are equipped with screens that have the ability to stream messages from the University’s emergency management team in real time.
