Alumni Weekend and Homecoming isn’t just for students and alumni. Faculty and staff have a strong sense of pride in the University and Homecoming is a great opportunity to share that pride with colleagues and the UM community. Faculty and staff are invited to join in the festivities, many of which are organized by the student Homecoming Executive Committee, and check out some of the new events created just for them. If you plan to go, here’s what you need to know.

Celebrate with food and fun
Kick off homecoming week with Spirit Day on Monday, Nov. 4 on the Coral Gables campus Lakeside Patio from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and enjoy free catered BBQ and live music. Take a break to savor free kettle corn at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at the Rosenstiel School of Atmospheric Science or on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the Miller School of Medicine Schoninger Research Quadrangle.

Pro tip: Claim your vouchers worth $20 to redeem at the food trucks during Hurricane Howl on Friday, Nov. 8. Vouchers will be available to faculty and staff on a first-come, first-served basis on Nov. 4 (Gables campus), Nov. 5 (marine campus), and Nov. 6 (medical campus).

Snag free concert tickets
Hurricane Productions announced this year’s concert will feature Atlanta-based rapper 21 Savage. The concert is free for the University community but tickets are required. A limited number of tickets will be available to faculty and staff with a valid ’Cane ID on a first-come, first-served basis.

Pro tip: Pick up your ticket starting Monday, Oct. 14 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the Coral Gables campus at the Shalala Student Center, room 206. Stay tuned for more details.

Get into the spirit
Show off your spirit on Tuesday, Nov. 5 by decorating an ornament to be hung on UM’s Spirit Tree, the only orange tree on the Coral Gables campus. Sport your favorite orange, white, and green attire on ’Canes Colors Day, Friday, Nov. 8. Then head over to Hurricane Howl on the Coral Gables campus to enjoy a family-friendly night consisting of food trucks, a block party, boat burning, and fireworks over Lake Osceola.

Give back
In anticipation of Veterans Day, join the Homecoming Executive Committee and Veteran Students Organization to build care packages for Miami-based veterans in partnership with Troopster during Hurricanes Help the Hometown, and hear from veterans at the U share about their experiences.

Pro top: Faculty and staff who donate one percent of their salary to the 2019 United Way campaign will be invited to enjoy the ’Canes Lounge with a guest for free. The lounge includes a reception with food and drink, and VIP access to the fireworks show and boat burning.

Is UM your alma mater?
Homecoming is also a time when alumni and friends come together to celebrate being a 'Cane during Alumni Weekend. The annual program includes class reunions, ’Cane Talks, and a number of special events. Learn more and register to attend.
