Employee Resource Groups: Veterans Unite

Employee Resource Groups: Veterans Unite

Whether you’re new to the University or you’re looking to meet new co-workers, the University of Miami’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) present opportunities to explore collaborative networks centered around a dimension of diversity, allowing you to make a positive impact within the University community. With support from Human Resources and a shared goal of enhancing the University’s culture of belonging, ERGs are open to all employees.

In celebration of Veterans Day and those in the University community who have served and continue to serve, we’re sharing details on how the Veterans Unite ERG re-established this year to provide customized programming and networking for military veterans and reservists at UM.

Lonnette Hall, director of women’s basketball operations and president of Veterans Unite, shared that when presented with the idea of re-establishing the Veterans ERG, she was inspired to work with her colleagues to create a community for University veterans to come together to form a fellowship.

“It’s important that veteran employees at the University have support in the workplace, especially those who are transitioning to civilian life,” said Hall. “The Veterans Unite ERG not only aims to bring together current faculty and staff through campus and local programming, but also helps connect veterans in the community with hiring opportunities at the U.”

As one of the University’s newest ERGs, Veterans Unite is looking to grow their membership and broaden their impact in the University of Miami community.
