Well ’Canes Marketplace returns

With new safety protocols in place, ’Canes on the Coral Gables Campus will be able to grab lunch from their favorite market vendors starting this Wednesday.
Well ’Canes Marketplace returns

A few months ago, there was nothing quite like getting to campus early in the morning and seeing the vendor tents set up for the weekly fresh market. The good news is you won’t have to daydream any longer. Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 9, the University of Miami will welcome back to the Coral Gables Campus a staple of the community—the Well ’Canes Marketplace.

Returning with new safety protocols in place to ensure the well-being of all, the market will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Miller Circle. If you plan to visit, the following are some of the changes you can expect.

  • There will be a limited number of vendors to allow physical distancing.
  • Random temperature screenings and daily symptom checks will be conducted while the market is open.
  • There will be a limit on how many people can be in the market at once.
  • Public Health Ambassadors will have at least one representative in the area at all times.
  • All vendors will be required to have their temperature checked and complete the University symptom checker each Wednesday upon arrival.
  • The market at the Medical Campus will remain closed per the campus visitor policy.

The highlight of the week for many ’Canes, the market has become a time for students, faculty, and staff members to get out of the classroom or office for a bit and enjoy themselves. No one is quite as excited for their return as our own Jacqueline Travisano, executive vice president for business and finance and chief operating officer at the University of Miami.

“Community continues to be important during these challenging times,” said Travisano. “I am delighted that we have been able to create a plan that will provide our students, faculty, and staff a sense of normalcy and community on campus this fall.”
