Sexual Assault Awareness Month addresses tough topics

Sexual assault—including sexual harassment, domestic violence, gender-based harassment, and stalking—can happen to anyone, at any time. In recognition of national Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the University of Miami community will come together to represent its commitment to supporting survivors, advocates, and allies. During the month of April, faculty, staff, and students are invited to participate in discussions and events hosted by the Title IX Office, It’s On Us student ambassadors, and campus and community partners.

It’s On Us Spring Week of Action
April 12–16

Hosted by the It’s On Us Student Ambassadors, events throughout the week will dive into various topics around sexual assault awareness, dating, and more. View the full listing of events and register.

Trauma-conscious yoga, for survivors
Wednesday, April 21, at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Offered by the Title IX Office in partnership with Roxcy Bolton Rape Treatment Center, join our trauma-conscious trained coach for a virtual yoga class designed to empower individuals in reasserting control. To create a safe and confidential experience, this event is offered to survivors only. Space is limited to 15 participants. Register by Thursday, April 15.

Self-Defense Awareness Familiarization Exchange (S.A.F.E.) class
Wednesday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m.

In partnership with the University of Miami Police Department, the Title IX Office will offer a one-hour crime-victim prevention program that encompasses strategies, techniques, and options that may reduce the risk of exposure to violence while introducing aspects of physical self-defense. Registration for the S.A.F.E class is limited to 20 participants. Secure your spot

Tuesday, April 27, at noon

Join a virtual, interactive discussion to learn practical tips to help stop sexual misconduct and support survivors. Learn more about the event and register here.  

Denim Day 2021
Wednesday, April 28

In support of the longest running sexual violence prevention campaign in history, the University community is encouraged to participate in Denim Day. Take part by wearing jeans in support of sexual assault survivors and the need to raise awareness about misconceptions surrounding sexual violence.
