In an effort to study Chopin’s work, the Frost School of Music’s Chopin Academy and Festival connects some of the world’s specialists—who have devoted their lives to the composer’s music—with young pianists. The University’s Office of Emergency Management is offering active shooter response training now through August. University students and faculty and staff members can attend the 75-minute session, which incorporates the latest Department of Homeland Security guidance on best practice responses for those who encounter active shooter situations. The course will be held on Thursday, July 15, at 1 p.m.; Wednesday, July 28, at 10:30 a.m.; and Thursday, Aug. 19, at 10:30 a.m. Students can register at miami.edu/studentemergencytraining. Faculty and staff members can visit ulearn.miami.edu and search for “ASRT” to find and select a session. Employees enrolled in UM’s Well ’Canes Incentives program can earn points for attending.
