Regardless of the military branch or time served, veteran faculty and staff members have unique experiences that have shaped their successes, and their contributions continue to make a positive impact on the University community. On Thursday, Nov. 4, the Office of Human Resources hosted Hiring Heroes, a virtual career fair dedicated to veterans who are interested in growing their careers with the University. Now in its 6th year, the fair attracts more than 30 former service members and reservists annually. The HR team continues to expand employment opportunities for those who served.
“The University takes pride in hiring veterans and the annual veterans career fair provides an opportunity to connect with and discover new talent that will continue to contribute to our mission,” said Lisi Carreno, executive director for talent acquisition.
Current faculty and staff members who are interested in connecting with the veteran community are encouraged to join the Veterans Unite Employee Resource Group. With 82 current members, the group continues to expand its outreach and support for the community. Reestablished in 2019, Veterans Unite functions as a networking platform for University employees who are serving as reservists or who are veterans of the armed forces. Like many of the University’s ERGs, Veterans Unite strives to enhance the professional experience of its members by providing guidance, support, and encouragement—ultimately building community and partnerships among the University’s veterans.
