UHealth Fitness and Wellness Center is now offering a variety of weekly in-person and virtual group exercise classes for all fitness levels, including HIIT (high intensity interval training), circuit training, yoga, Zumba, and indoor cycling. These classes are included with each membership. Virtual classes are open to non-members. Additionally, private and group Reformer Pilates are available for a fee. A new session (each is eight weeks long) of the classes will run from Feb. 7 through April 1. Early registration is open through Feb. 10. Explore the University’s unique teaching initiatives that enhance undergraduate learning experiences. Offered by the Platform for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (PETAL) department, attendees will learn about the discussion-based teaching methods used in the University’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) as well as the Cognates Program, which provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to take courses across multiple areas of knowledge. The session includes presentations by Bill Green, professor of religious studies and former senior vice provost and dean of undergraduate education, and Aaron Royer, senior instructional designer and facilitator of QEP faculty learning communities. In recognition of Black History Month, faculty and staff members are invited to join leaders from the University of Miami and South Florida on Feb. 15 for a virtual panel discussion—Leadership Insights: Race, Identity, and Career Navigation. Participants will engage in a conversation about career development, resiliency, and building community in the workplace. Hosted by the Human Resources’ Office of Workplace Equity and Inclusion, the event will be moderated by Renée Dickens Callan, assistant vice president of student life; Richard Sobaram, assistant vice president for the Division of Student Affairs—housing and strategic initiatives; Teshamae Monteith, associate professor; and Nikki Traylor-Knowles, assistant professor, marine biology and ecology.
