Help the University ensure safety and security on our campuses

The overall safety and security of the University community depends, in part, on ensuring the timely removal of access for employees who are separating from the institution. While many access points can be removed via an automated central process, some types of locking devices still rely upon the timely return of an employee’s ’Cane Card. As a result, supervisors play a critical role in retrieving and returning ’Cane Cards and physical keys to the Access Control team for decommissioning.

Coral Gables and Rosenstiel Campuses

’Cane Cards and keys may be returned via interoffice mail or in person via drop box locations on either campus. Full details regarding the process and locations for returning ’Cane cards and keys can be found at  www.miami.edu/accessreturn.

Contact the Access Control team at accesscontrol@miami.edu for more information.

Medical Campus

All IDs, access cards, and keys should be returned to 1501 NW 9th Ave., Suite 100.

Contact the Access Control team at PhotoID@med.miami.edu for more information.

Additional details can also be found in the separation checklist in Workday.

The University’s Access Control Policy and ’Cane Card Policy contain information pertaining to the prompt return of an employee’s ’Cane Card and assigned keys. Explore Offboarding Resources to find more information about staff separations.
