Provost’s Awards celebrate faculty achievement and service

Faculty members and leaders from throughout the University honored the impact of their colleagues.

In recognition of outstanding teaching, service, and research, nearly 150 University faculty members and leaders celebrated the 2024 Provost’s Awards on May 1. Throughout the event, colleagues collectively shared their excitement and enthusiasm about the accomplishments of the past year and the opportunities of the forthcoming semester.

Composed of three categories—Research Awards, Teaching Awards, and Awards for Faculty Excellence and Impact—each category focuses on outstanding achievement and impact. This year, an additional award, Excellence in Clinical Teaching, was added to the Teaching Awards category to honor a faculty member who has made a significant contribution to the development of future health professionals by demonstrating an outstanding commitment to effective, exemplary, and innovative instruction in a clinical setting and serving as a role model clinician.

“With more than 150 nominations, today is a celebration of not just the winners but also the nominees,” said Guillermo “Willy” Prado, interim executive vice president for academic affairs and provost. "Together, our faculty members drive  innovation, discovery, and perspective that hold the power to shape the University community and impact the world.”

Prado also recognized award presenters—Kathi Kern, senior vice provost for education; Maria Stampino, dean of undergraduate affairs; Alexandra Wilson, interim vice provost for faculty affairs; and Maria Alcaide, interim vice provost for research and scholarship—and who guided the processes and opportunities that support foundational pillars of teaching, research, and service.

The Research Awards

The Provost’s Research Awards, presented by Alcaide, are designed to contribute to the growth of the University’s research portfolio and advance opportunities for scholarship and creative activities. This year’s awards funded 34 applications from seven schools and colleges.
