Attend the State of the University with President Frenk
Thursday, Sept. 12 at 4:30 p.m.
University faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend the State of the University town hall meeting hosted by President Frenk at the Shalala Student Center on Thursday, Sept. 12. The event will include an address by the president, presentations by students and faculty, a panel discussion, and a Q&A session. RSVP now.

Expert tips on parenting
Monday, Sept. 9–Thursday, Sept. 12
Kicking off a three-part seminar series, Allison Weinstein, Ph.D., assistant professor of clinical pediatrics at UM, will share evidence-based parenting strategies for improving parenting skills. Caregivers of children ages two to 12 will learn how using positive attention skills and child-led play can improve a child’s behavior while enhancing their relationships with caregivers. UM employees can register to attend a session, which is organized by the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program. JCPenney Suit-Up event
Sunday, Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m.
The University community is invited to attend the JCPenney Suit-Up event at their Dadeland store on Sunday, Sept. 15 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Participants will receive an extra 40 percent off career dress apparel, accessories, and shoes. There will be prizes given away throughout the evening, Sephora will be providing mini makeovers, and the salon will offer free consultations and discount coupons for future visits. Bring your ’Cane card to take advantage of this exclusive event for UM students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends. Students can RSVP on Handshake. Transportation will be provided from the Toppel Career Center starting at 6 p.m.

Sign up for a self-defense course 
Multiple dates
UMPD is offering free S.A.F.E. classes to all female members of the University community 18 years of age and older, including faculty, staff, and students. S.A.F.E. is a two-hour educational awareness, crime-victim prevention program that encompasses strategies, techniques, options, and prevention. It is designed to provide women with information that may reduce their risk of exposure to violence and introduces them to the physical aspects of self-defense. Register now for an upcoming session.

Inaugural diversity and inclusion conference 
Thursday, Sept. 26 at 8 a.m.
Celebrate diversity and the University’s focus on promoting thoughtful, sustainable inclusion at the inaugural Diversity and Inclusion Conference on Thursday, Sept. 26. Hosted by the Miami Business School at the Storer Auditorium, this student-driven initiative is free and open to the University community, regardless of program or academic year. Through thought-provoking guest speakers and dialogue, attendees will enhance their understanding of current events and of each other. Learn more.
