The NCAA defines a Representative of Athletics Interest or “Booster” as an individual, corporate entity, or other organization who:
- Currently is or has been a member of ANY organization that supports University of Miami athletics.
- Currently is or has been involved in promoting University of Miami Athletics, which includes posts on social media.
- Makes or has made financial donations to UM Athletics or to an athletics booster organization.
- Provides or has provided benefits, such as summer jobs, or meals, to enrolled student-athletes or their families.
- Is a current or former season ticket holder.
- Is a former student or student-athlete at the University of Miami.
Please be aware that “once a booster, always a booster.” A University of Miami booster, donor, contributor, or supporter, is prohibited from contacting recruits―any student in grade 9 and up―including through the use of social media. They are not allowed to assist in recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
Boosters may not provide a benefit―an arrangement that would not be available to the general public or student body―to a student-athlete, recruit, or their family and friends. Additionally, boosters must not provide inducements to a recruit, transfer student, or current student contingent upon attendance at the University of Miami.
Under the Florida law and the University’s Name, Image, and Likeness Policy, a booster may reach an agreement with a student-athlete to use the student’s name, image and/or likeness in exchange for some type of benefit (e.g., payment, discounted meal, gear, etc.). If the student-athlete does not complete an activity under the agreement, the booster has provided an impermissible extra benefit that could jeopardize the student’s eligibility. Boosters may not induce a recruit to attend the University of Miami with the guarantee of a name, image, and likeness deal.
