Dive into 2023 benefits changes during Open Enrollment

Open Enrollment—your annual opportunity to make changes to your benefits—runs through Friday, Nov. 4. Changes are effective Jan. 1, 2023.

This week employees can attend an in-person ’Canes Total Rewards Fair on the Coral Gables, Marine, and Medical campuses. Participants are able to snag a free flu shot, biometric testing, and massage, among other amenities. Biometric testing appointments are strongly encouraged. Follow these steps to schedule your appointment.

Below find more details about this year’s changes to employee benefits.

Prescription Coverage

Prescription coverage will transition from OptumRx to Aetna, effective Jan. 1, 2023. Employees will receive a new ID card in December. Prescription copays will remain the same, however, some medications may move tiers. If any of your medications are impacted by the change, Aetna will notify you directly.

Mental and Behavioral Health

Enhanced access to mental and behavioral health services will be provided through an Aetna pilot program. Employees will receive the contact information on their new ID card in December.

Voluntary Excess Life Insurance

Eligible employees may elect voluntary excess life insurance for up to three times their annual salary, to a maximum of $1 million, with no medical questionnaire. If an employee has been declined coverage in the past, this is an opportunity to elect coverage without being turned down because of a pre-existing medical condition. In addition, premiums are reduced for all employee-only voluntary excess life coverage, including existing policies.

One Medical

One Medical and UHealth have partnered to expand access to UHealth on-site clinics and UHealth Walgreens. In addition to existing access at UHealth, One Medical has offices nationwide and provides 24/7 access to virtual care, including preventive, mental health, testing, health screenings, and more. Employees who wish to use the expanded network will register directly with One Medical at no cost.

Find answers to frequently asked questions and learn more about making changes during open enrollment. Faculty and staff members who have additional questions are encouraged to attend a virtual Open Enrollment Information Session. View the schedule and register to attend.
