5 things you need to know this week

By Life@TheU
A weekly series designed to highlight events, benefits, perks, and items of interest for University of Miami faculty and staff.

Ride in style
Starting today!
Expect to see a new fleet of Hurry ’Canes buses shuttling passengers across the Coral Gables campus. Complete with a brand new look, the new shuttles will accommodate twice as many passengers as the previous fleet, alleviating overcrowding during the busiest times of the day. Equipped with front and rear doors, the new shuttles will be more efficient by offering two ways to get on and off the buses. Learn more.

Donor recognition audit
Monday, Aug. 12–Monday, Sept. 30
In an effort to better understand its history, the University has begun to audit facilities and records on all campuses. Starting on the medical campus, expect to see representatives from Honorcraft visiting spaces to locate, inventory, and photograph various items, including furniture, plaques, and spaces that have resulted from a donation. For questions about this project, contact Karen Hamilton, executive director of donor relations, at 305-284-4650 or karenhamilton@miami.edu.

Learn more on Monday, Aug. 12–Tuesday, Aug. 13
Learn how you can take your courses to the next level with the new Instructional Design and Technology certificate program. Hosted by the Division of Continuing and International Education, this program—designed for faculty and education professionals—teaches the fundamentals of instructional design, how to integrate technology into your class, and how to create engaging and accessible online courses. Attend an information session to learn more about the program and the discounts available to UM employees, including free enrollment in the first course and 20 percent off the tuition price. All experience levels and job functions are welcome to be part of the program. Participation is limited to full-time UM faculty and staff.
