Get ready to celebrate with the Marlins

If you’re planning to attend Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night with the Miami Marlins on Aug. 10, we’ve got you covered. With three ticket distribution dates left, including the Coral Gables campus on Monday, Aug. 5 and the medical campus on Tuesday, Aug. 6 and Wednesday, Aug. 7, we’re counting down until game day. Here's what you need to know before you go. 

Hurricane preparedness training session
Thursday, Aug. 8 at 10:30 a.m.
If you’re new to South Florida or have limited experience with hurricanes, consider registering for an upcoming session available to UM students, faculty, and staff. During the free one-hour interactive training hosted by the Office of Emergency Management, attendees will receive important safety-related information and actionable steps toward keeping themselves and their property safe before, during, and after a storm. Mindful living seminar
Monday, Aug. 5–Friday, Aug. 9
Curious about practicing mindfulness? If you’re looking to increase engagement with the present moment and gain a clearer understanding of how thoughts and emotions impact our health and the quality of our lives, consider attending a mindful living seminar. UM employees can register to attend a session, which is facilitated by a Faculty Staff Assistance Program consultant. Employees enrolled in UM’s Well ’Canes program can earn points by attending these sessions. Learn more by reading the latest newsletter.

Ask the experts: Weight loss: A marathon or a sprint?
Friday, Aug. 9 at 12:15 p.m.
When it comes to weight loss, your approach makes a huge difference. Learn from expert Jacqueline Rodriguez, RDN, LDN about the effectiveness of short- and long-term weight loss plans, the importance of hormones and consistency, setting SMART goals, and establishing an effective reward system. Employees enrolled in UM’s Well ’Canes program can earn points by attending this session on Friday, Aug. 9 at UHealth Fitness and Wellness Center, classroom A. Student move-in week
Monday, Aug. 12–Sunday, Aug. 18
Starting next week, students on the Coral Gables campus will be moving into on-campus housing. Expect elevated pedestrian and vehicular activity, including lot closures starting Thursday, Aug. 8 and roadway interruptions affecting Pavia and Merrick Garages, and the yellow zone parking lots. Plan ahead and use alternative parking lots around campus as the parking color zone restrictions are lifted through Sunday, Aug. 18, excluding the purple color zone. Learn more.
