Each day, faculty and staff members dedicate their talents to the greater mission and vision of the U. We’ve gathered some of the most impactful moments of 2022 to share.

Throughout the year, University employees participated in various events and activities, including appreciation opportunities offered by leaders and colleagues. Whether you gave your teammates a shoutout on employee appreciation day or sent a note of gratitude using the Thank a ’Cane tool, many faculty and staff members felt the love and received kudos from their peers.

University leaders showed appreciation for employees during the Miami Marlins and Miami Hurricanes football employee-appreciation games. Additionally, the Office of Government and Community Relations teamed up with Human Resources to celebrate employees on all three campuses during Homecoming week.

We sought opportunities to promote a culture of belonging.

Since launching in February 2022, more than 500 leaders and staff members have enrolled in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Certificate Program. Offered by the Office of Human Resources, the self-paced program, available to all faculty and staff members, curates learning opportunities to support a culture of belonging related to diverse ideas, topics, and people. More than 80 participants have graduated from the program, each investing 12.5 hours throughout the year to earn their certificate. Learn about the program’s impact and how you can get involved.

We exchanged career advice, firsthand professional experiences.

In honor of Black History Month, the Human Resources’ Office of Workplace Equity and Inclusion hosted a virtual panel—Leadership Insights: Race, Identity, and Career Navigation—with leaders from the University of Miami and South Florida. More than 180 faculty and staff members joined the discussion and shared valuable takeaways from the engaging dialogue. We united in support of a greater purpose.

On Saturday, Feb. 26, more than 4,500 participants turned out to ride, walk, run, or volunteer at the 12th annual Dolphins Challenge Cancer (DCC) event, which has raised more than $53.9 million for Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center since its inception. More than 200 teams united as one to fundraise, including University of Miami employees, students, donors, and other proud members of the ’Canes family. Learn more and view a recap.

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Human Resources’ Office of Workplace Equity and Inclusion hosted a virtual event on Tuesday, March 29—Visionary Women Panel: Transforming Work and World—with leaders from the University of Miami and South Florida. More than 280 faculty and staff members joined the discussion and shared valuable takeaways from the engaging dialogue. Get some tips and watch the recording.

We celebrated longtime faculty and staff members.

The University honored employees who have reached a milestone of 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, and 55 years of service between January 1, 2021, and May 31, 2022, Leaders and colleagues gathered to celebrate their work and share stories about their journeys during the Long Service Award Ceremony, held virtually on Tuesday, April 26. We recognized faculty members for their contributions to the University.

Each year the Faculty Senate recognizes three members of the University community who represent exemplary teaching, service, and scholarly work. Nominated and selected by their peers, based on significant contributions to the University, the award recipients are honored during the annual ceremony on April 11.

Also in April, nearly 100 University faculty members and leaders came together to celebrate the 2022 Provost’s Awards, which lauded faculty members from diverse disciplines for their dedication to advancing the University’s mission. During the event, University leaders recognized faculty members for advances in research and innovative scholarly activity.
