Editor’s Note: As the University of Miami reopens and welcomes students, faculty, and staff back to campus for the Fall 2020 semester, our “Campus Ready” updates will help the University community navigate how to eat, shop, stay fit, and more, while putting the health and well-being of our community first.
With adjusted hours to allow for a thorough cleaning of the entire facility each night and a limited capacity of 90 people in the fitness room, the Herbert Wellness Center continues to follow CDC guidelines to support a healthy workout.
What’s New
While fitness staff will continually clean and sanitize equipment and the facility, the following are additional guidelines that all users must follow when using the facility.
- Everyone must show their symptom checker scan code to the front desk staff.
- A separate facial covering and towel are required to enter the facility. No exceptions. Wearing a facial covering is required at all times, even when working out.
- All users are required to clean equipment before and after each use.
- Follow physical distancing guidelines as dictated by building signage and instructions from the staff.
- Anyone exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms as defined by the CDC will be asked to leave immediately.
In addition to following new guidelines, there are many ways to make the most of your workout. To avoid capacity limitations, plan your workout for non-peak hours—the facility is typically busy during the morning hours and just after 5 p.m. Use your phone to check in for touchless entry, and plan your workout routine before arriving to lessen idle time in the facility.
While the University Center outdoor pool is open to students, the Wellness Center’s indoor pool remains closed for refurbishing. Equipment checkout, including towel service, is currently unavailable, so plan to bring your own gear and review limitations on basketball and racquetball/squash court usage before using the facility.
“As we welcome students back to the Wellness Center, we want to offer a safe place to exercise and stay healthy. We have high expectations that this can be accomplished.”
—Scott Levin, executive director of the Patti and Allan Herbert Wellness Center
