The University of Miami’s Study Abroad Office celebrates International Education Week this week with a social media campaign, two virtual events, and a renewed commitment to sending students on the safest exchange programs available.

Study abroad programs were curtailed during the height of the pandemic, but this semester students were able to primarily study abroad in Europe because its safety protocols are the most protective. The hope is that more programs can be offered by next summer and fall. Deadlines to register for summer and fall programs begin Feb. 1, 2022.

“We know it can be a really beneficial experience, so we want to encourage students to think about how study abroad could fit into their academic plan at UM,” said Anna Kenney, assistant director of Study Abroad.

Devika Milner, assistant dean and director of Study Abroad, cited the numerous benefits of study abroad, including how it helps students stand apart from others in the job market because of their experience with other cultures. “We want to highlight the importance of an international education, and the opportunities that exist at the University for students to become global citizens,” she said.

International Education Week will also include celebrating international students and international exchange students at the University.

“These students bring so much richness to our campus with their unique traditions and cultures; it adds another dimension to the institution,” Milner added.

Two virtual events will be held Wednesday, Nov. 17:

  • Study Abroad 101, an information session at 1 p.m. Register here.
  • International Scholarships information session at 2 p.m. Register here.
